Telangana's Comprehensive Caste Survey Sets a National Example
The Telangana government’s ambitious caste survey, aimed at ensuring welfare and social empowerment for all communities, has garnered widespread attention. The initiative is being hailed as a role model for the entire country.
The survey, which began on November 6, achieved a significant milestone on Friday by completing data collection for one crore families in just 16 days. This remarkable feat has set a new benchmark in household enumeration efforts across India.
According to officials, the survey has been successfully completed in eight out of the state’s 33 districts. Mulugu and Jangaon districts have achieved 100% completion, while Nalgonda and Medak recorded 99.9%. Yadadri Bhongiri, Jagtial, and Gadwal districts registered 99%, and Mancherial followed closely with 98.5%. Additionally, Asifabad, Nizamabad, and Sircilla districts reported 98% completion. In most districts, the survey is considered complete except for residents living outside the state or homes that were locked during the enumeration.
Initially, there were doubts and misconceptions about the survey’s purpose. However, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s appeal to the public emphasized that the caste survey would promote social empowerment and upliftment for BC, SC, ST, and other weaker sections. This message resonated with citizens, resulting in a positive response. Over one lakh government employees, including enumerators, supervisors, and data entry operators, are working tirelessly to execute this massive project.
The first phase of the survey, conducted from November 6 to 8, focused on enumerating houses across the state. It identified a total of 1,16,14,349 families in Telangana. From November 9, enumerators began a door-to-door survey to collect detailed household information. The findings revealed that of the total families, 64,41,183 reside in rural areas, while 51,73,166 live in urban regions.
This comprehensive survey is expected to pave the way for better planning and targeted welfare initiatives for all communities in Telangana.
