Farmers and residents of Pedda Dhanwada village in Jogulamba Gadwal district have raised concerns about a construction project by Gayatri Ethanol Company. On Tuesday, they submitted a formal complaint to District Collector BM Santhosh, asking for the construction to be stopped. The villagers were led by BJP district president Ramachandra Reddy.
The protest is due to the ethanol plant being built on 29 acres of agricultural land. The land is located in survey numbers 174/1, 174/A1, 174/A2, 174/B, and 174/B2.
The villagers argue that the plant is violating regulations. According to them, the law states that no village should be within 10 kilometers of such industries. However, several villages are just 2-3 kilometers away from the proposed site. These nearby villages include Chinna Dhanwada, Nasanur, Man Doddi, Chinna Tandrapadu, Navroj Camp, Veni Sompuram, and Keshavaram.
The community is worried that the ethanol plant could lead to serious water and air pollution. They fear this could harm their health and reduce agricultural productivity in the area.
