A goods train derailed near Raghavapur in Peddapalli district on Tuesday night, causing a major disruption in rail traffic. The train, which was carrying iron coils from Ghaziabad to Kazipet, went off the tracks between Raghavapur and Kannala stations. A total of 11 bogies derailed, damaging three tracks.
The derailment has had a severe impact on the railway system, as this is a key route connecting southern states to northern states. Trains from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and other states were affected. Both passenger and goods trains were halted at various locations as a result.
South Central Railway officials arrived at the scene to begin clearing the derailed train and repairing the damaged tracks. Efforts were made to reroute trains through alternative paths, but the accident caused significant delays, especially for trains heading to and from Delhi.
Passengers on the halted trains faced difficulties as they were stranded without access to food and drinking water. Many trains were either canceled or diverted, and the schedules had to be adjusted to help passengers reach their destinations. Some trains were rerouted through areas like Adilabad and Nizamabad districts, while others were diverted via Guduru and Guntakal.
People traveling between Kazipet and Peddapalli were particularly affected, with many spending the entire night in discomfort. Locals from nearby areas managed to reach their destinations using available transport, but the overall train traffic system was heavily disrupted.
Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsikrishna has been closely monitoring the situation and overseeing the repair work. Additionally, Peddapalli Collector Koya Shri Harsha visited the site late Tuesday night to assess the damage and track repair efforts. He coordinated with police and Singareni management to bring heavy cranes to the scene to help clear the derailed train.
By Wednesday morning, the Collector returned to the site to inspect the ongoing repairs, traveling by trolley along the damaged tracks. He instructed the railway authorities to expedite the work and restore normal train operations as quickly as possible.
