Hyderabad: State IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu has warned that any attempts to block or spread confusion about the government’s social comprehensive family survey will be met with strict action.

In a statement on Friday, the Minister criticised leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for questioning the need for the survey. He explained that the data gathered in a previous family survey, conducted by the former government, was collected based on the requirements at that time.

Minister Sridhar Babu pointed out that the very idea of conducting a social, economic, educational, and caste-based survey has caused discomfort among both the BRS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He argued that this reaction shows these parties’ reluctance to give justice to the weaker sections of society. He also mentioned that although the population census was supposed to happen in 2021, the central government, led by the BJP, has delayed it for over three years since the last census in 2011.

According to Sridhar Babu, the family survey is intended to promote social justice, ensure fair political representation, and provide economic support to marginalised groups. He called on both the BRS and the BJP to explain to the public why they are opposing this survey, which could benefit Backward Classes (BC), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST).

The Minister criticised both parties for blindly opposing the government’s efforts to distribute benefits based on population data. He condemned any misinformation being spread about the survey and stated that the government is transparent in its actions. He also emphasised that the survey will ensure that those who are eligible but may have been overlooked will now receive their social benefits.

In his closing remarks, Sridhar Babu urged leaders from the BRS and BJP to acknowledge the importance of the caste survey and asked citizens to cooperate by staying at home during the enumeration process.
