Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy highlighted the potential political risks involved in conducting a caste census but called it a bold step by the government. Speaking at the State Level Consultations on Caste Census at the Gandhi Ideology Centre in Bowenpally, he emphasized the State government’s commitment to carrying out this important exercise.

Revanth Reddy referred to Telangana as a “rising state” and assured that once the caste survey is complete, the Backward Classes (BCs) would be given their rightful share of opportunities. He stressed that the government is serious about ensuring social justice for all sections of society.

The Chief Minister also reiterated that elements of Telangana’s Caste Census should be included in the national census of 2025. He announced that a resolution supporting this demand was being passed during the event.

Revanth Reddy expressed his gratitude to national leader Rahul Gandhi for attending the event and praised him for his ability to turn words into action. The Chief Minister also pointed out that in the recent Group-1 exams, less than 10% of the selected candidates were from upper castes. He shared that out of the 31,383 aspirants who qualified for the Mains, 57.11% were from Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 15.3% were from Scheduled Castes (SCs), and 8.8% were from Scheduled Tribes (STs).

This, he said, shows the government’s commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for all sections, particularly the marginalized communities.
