Hyderabad: Bomb Threats at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

The Hyderabad police have registered eight cases related to anonymous bomb threats at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). These threats, made over the past week, were posted on the social media platform X. However, after thorough checks of both the flights and the airport, all of the threats turned out to be false alarms.

Special teams have been set up by the police to track down those responsible for these bomb threats. According to RGIA Circle Inspector K Balaraju, six of the threats were received on a single day—Tuesday. These threats targeted five IndiGo flights and one Air India flight. Two of the IndiGo flights were scheduled to fly to Chennai, while the Air India flight was arriving at RGIA from Chennai.

The police believe that these threats are intended to create fear and panic. Those responsible for the threats are being charged with causing fear and delaying flights. Among the 72 bomb threats received across India on Tuesday, six were related to flights from RGIA. These threats, made by unidentified users on X, have been disrupting air travel nationwide.

Security agencies, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), have been conducting extensive searches after every alert. They use sniffer dogs to inspect flights, luggage, and the airport premises. Officials say these false threats not only disrupt air travel but also strain security resources and affect the confidence of passengers.

Inspector Balaraju mentioned that it takes at least two hours to isolate and inspect each flight, including its luggage and passengers, after every bomb threat.

Over the past 10 days, hundreds of flights across India have received bomb threats. Though all of these threats have been proven false, they have caused significant panic, flight delays, and heightened security at airports.

In a related case, police in Nagpur, Maharashtra, identified a 35-year-old man named Jagdish Uikey as the person behind several hoax bomb threats. However, the suspect is currently on the run.
