Hyderabad: A tragic incident occurred in Banjara Hills, where a woman died, and around 20 others became seriously ill after eating momos from a roadside food stall. Some of the affected individuals filed a complaint with the Banjara Hills police on Monday.
The woman who passed away has been identified as 29-year-old Reshma Begum. She fell ill after consuming food from a street vendor in the Nandinagar area. Reshma was taken to NIMS hospital by her family, but her condition worsened, and she tragically died while undergoing treatment.
The incident took place during a weekly market in Nandinagar on Friday. Several people who ate at the momo stall experienced severe symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea shortly after. Many of these individuals are now receiving treatment at various hospitals across Hyderabad.
On Monday, some of the victims approached the police to file formal complaints. The police have registered cases and started an investigation. Officials believe that the food poisoning may not have been caused solely by the momos but could have also been due to the mayonnaise or chutney served with them.
After receiving the complaints, food safety officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), along with the Banjara Hills police, tracked down the street vendor. The stall was operating under the name WOW Hot Momos or Delhi Hot Momos in Chintal Basti, Khairtabad.
On inspecting the vendor’s premises, officials discovered that the stall was operating without an FSSAI license, and the food was being prepared in unsanitary conditions. “We have collected samples of the food, which will be sent to the State Food Laboratory for analysis. Orders have been issued to stop the business operations,” said a food safety officer.
