Hyderabad: The government has set a goal to provide 4.5 lakh houses, known as “Indiramma Indlu,” to beneficiaries each year. To achieve this, the process of identifying land in different Assembly segments has been sped up.

The State government plans to build and distribute over 20 lakh houses by the end of its five-year term. The Indiramma Indlu scheme is one of the major promises made by the current government during the election campaign. In each constituency, at least 3,500 houses will be given out every year. Earlier this month, the Minister for Revenue and Housing, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, mentioned that eligible beneficiaries would be selected for the housing units in Phase-I of the scheme, which will begin in the next couple of months.

During the Praja Palana drive earlier this year, the authorities received about 83 lakh applications from people seeking houses. To ensure the success of the scheme, officials studied the experiences of other states that had implemented similar housing programs. Reports on these findings were submitted, helping shape the next steps.

Once the government finalizes the guidelines, district Collectors will focus on identifying land for the houses. Construction is expected to start in January after the land identification process, which must be completed by December. The scheme will be closely monitored by Collectors, Local MLAs, and district Ministers.

The government has also created a plan to review the 83 lakh applications submitted. Since there are more applications than available houses, beneficiaries will be selected through Gram Sabhas, and if necessary, a lottery system will be used. Those who do not get houses in this round will be given priority in future phases.
