Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has expressed frustration with leaders from the BJP and BRS for creating obstacles in his efforts to implement several ambitious projects aimed at putting Telangana on the global map. Speaking at the Southern Summit on Friday, Revanth shared his vision to transform Bapu Ghat, located near Langer Houz, into a major tourist destination. He also announced plans to erect a large statue of Mahatma Gandhi, similar to the Statue of Unity of Sardar Patel in Gujarat.

Revanth pointed out that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the Statue of Unity, the people of Telangana were supportive. However, he said that state BJP leaders are now opposing his idea of installing a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. “It seems they may not like Mahatma Gandhi,” the Chief Minister remarked, urging BJP leaders not to act as destructive forces.

The Chief Minister clarified that his goal is to help Telangana compete on a global scale, not just with other Indian states. He called on BJP leaders to support his efforts to elevate Telangana and avoid actions that could harm the state’s progress.

Revanth also emphasized the significance of Telangana’s creation, which came after 60 years of struggle and the sacrifice of 1,200 youths. “Shouldn’t we develop our state like Gujarat?” he questioned, highlighting the need for development.

The Chief Minister further criticized the BJP for opposing his plan to construct a ‘Future City’ in Telangana while showing no objection to Gujarat’s ‘Gift City.’ Revanth suggested that Prime Minister Modi may not want any competition for Gujarat’s development.

Additionally, Revanth revealed plans to establish a Gandhi Ideology Centre at Bapu Ghat, a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi located on the banks of the Musi River.

In his speech, Revanth also took a dig at BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, questioning his right to continue as the Leader of the Opposition. He pointed out that KCR has only attended Assembly sessions for about 10 minutes in the last 10 months.
