Padma Shri awardee and renowned Gussadi artist, Kanakaraj, has passed away at the age of 94. He had been dealing with health issues and sadly passed away on Friday. His death has left a deep impact on the world of traditional tribal dance.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his deep sadness over the loss. He extended his condolences to Kanakaraj’s family and acknowledged the artist’s immense contribution to the Gussadi dance. To honor Kanakaraj’s legacy, the Chief Minister has ordered a state funeral with full honors, which will take place on Saturday.
Kanakaraj was from Mandal Marlavai in the Asifabad District. He played a crucial role in preserving and promoting the Gussadi dance, a traditional art form of tribal communities. In recognition of his hard work and dedication, he was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri on November 9, 2021, by the then-President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.
Due to Kanakaraj’s significant contributions to the arts and culture, special arrangements have been made for his funeral. His legacy will continue to live on through the Gussadi dance, which he devoted much of his life to preserving and promoting. His work will be remembered and cherished for generations to come.
