Hyderabad: A large police operation was carried out to stop street prostitution in the city.
The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) SHE Teams, along with the Kukatpally and KPHB police, worked together to rescue 31 women and four transgender individuals. The operation took place on Wednesday night under the guidance of DCP Balanagar Zone K Suresh Kumar and ACP K Srinivas Rao. It was conducted at the Bhagyanagar bus stop and under the KPHB Metro Station.
Four special police teams were created for the operation, involving 49 officers from different ranks, including constables and ACPs. These teams consisted of members from the law and order staff, the AHTU team, and the CAR unit.
As a result of the operation, four cases were registered at the Kukatpally police station, and one case was registered at the KPHB police station. The charges were filed under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
ACP Srinivas Rao explained that after being apprehended, the individuals would be presented before the tahsildar of Kukatpally mandal. They would undergo a “bind-over” procedure to ensure good behavior. After this, they would be released with notices issued under Section 35 of the BNSS Act.
Earlier in the month, a similar police operation led to the arrest of 22 people. Four cases were registered at the Kukatpally police station and two more at the KPHB police station. The individuals in that operation were also bound over for good behavior, and later released with notices under the BNSS Act.
The Cyberabad police made it clear that they will strictly enforce laws against prostitution. They emphasized that no form of prostitution will be tolerated in their jurisdiction. Regular police operations will continue to ensure the safety and security of citizens. The police also urged the public to report any suspicious or illegal activities to the nearest police station.
