Warangal: Minister Konda Surekha, who is already facing a defamation case filed by actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, has sparked a new controversy in the Warangal district.

On Friday night, Surekha’s supporters put up banners in Dharmaram village during Dasara festivities. However, they did not include the name or image of Parkal MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy, which upset his supporters.

Revuri’s loyalists reportedly damaged the banners and stopped Surekha’s supporters from putting up more. This led to a physical confrontation between the two groups. Surekha’s supporters accused the police of arresting only their group and leaving Revuri’s followers alone.

Upon hearing about the incident, Konda Surekha rushed to the Geesugonda Police Station. She demanded the transfer of the police inspector and sub-inspector, accusing them of bias.

Warangal Commissioner of Police, Ambar Kishor Jha, also arrived at the station. He assured Surekha that a full investigation would be conducted, and action would be taken if any police officers were at fault.

The arrested individuals were identified as B Raju Kumar, M Suresh Raju, Ch Ranjith, Ch Shiva, U Vamsi, and K Raju Kumar. All of them are supporters of Konda Surekha.

In protest, Surekha’s followers blocked the Dharmaram Railway gate road, causing a two-kilometre traffic jam on the Narsampet-Warangal highway. The police later arrested the protestors and took them to the Geesugonda Police Station.

Inspector A Mahender confirmed that a case was filed against six people. Meanwhile, the Congress high command informed Surekha to leave the police station, which she did without giving any comments to the media.
