Hyderabad: The Telangana State government is organizing a series of ‘rath-yatras’ to raise awareness about its efforts to improve conditions in Gurukula schools and highlight the shortcomings of the previous BRS government. These yatras will be led by the chairmen of the SC, ST, BC, and Minorities Finance Corporations, and will travel to various parts of the State. The main goal is to assess the current situation in Gurukula schools and help the government with its new initiative, the Young India—Integrated Schools program.
The yatras are scheduled to begin on October 20. Once the yatras are completed, a detailed report will be submitted to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. The chairmen leading the yatras include Nagaragari Pritam (SC Corporation), Nuthi Srikanth Goud (BC Finance Corporation), T Bellaiah Naik (SC Cooperative Finance Development Corporation), and Obaidullah Kotwal (TS Minority Finance Corporation). They will each start from different locations and will visit all 33 districts of Telangana.
For example, Pritam will start his yatra from the Yadadri temple, covering the entire district before moving on to Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Bhupalpally, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Asifabad, and other districts. During the yatra, the leaders will focus on the education sector, specifically visiting hostels and residential schools to assess the condition of boarding amenities like beds and hygiene facilities. They will also draw attention to the previous government’s failures in maintaining education standards.
Pritam explained that they will submit a report to the Chief Minister detailing issues like teacher vacancies, a drop in student enrollment, and the poor state of school maintenance during the BRS regime.
The main goal of the yatra is to promote Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s vision of ‘quality and equality’ in education. Pritam mentioned that while there are currently 668 Gurukula schools in the State, many lack basic facilities. The government plans to convert these schools into integrated schools and improve their overall condition. The construction of new Integrated Schools, which began on October 11, will be sped up without disrupting the existing Gurukulas.
