Adilabad: Cotton Purchases Must Be Transparent, Says Collector

District Collector Rajarshi Shah has emphasized that the buying and collecting of cotton in the district should be done transparently. He stressed the importance of ensuring that farmers do not face any difficulties during the process.

The Collector, along with Additional Collector Shyamala Devi, held a video meeting with RDOs, tehsildars, and agriculture officers on Tuesday. They discussed how the 150-day cotton purchase process should be carried out strictly, with all necessary precautions in place. Shah urged officials to take steps to avoid any mistakes or negligence and ensure smooth operations at the cotton purchase centers.

He also highlighted the need to provide basic facilities at the centers and to make preparations in advance to ensure everything runs smoothly.

The minimum support price for cotton has been set at Rs. 7521 per quintal by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI). Farmers must bring the required documents when they come to sell their cotton to CCI.

Additionally, CCI will only deposit money into bank accounts linked with the farmer’s Aadhaar number. If a farmer’s account is not linked, they must bring two forms of identification and their mobile phone. Farmers’ biometric details, including live photo, fingerprint, iris scan, facial recognition, and OTP confirmation, will be entered into the system at the purchase center.
