Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has asked the Central Government to include Hyderabad under the AMRUT 2.0 (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) scheme. He made this request during a meeting with Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, in New Delhi.

Revanth Reddy also urged the Central Government to assist with the expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2 as a joint venture. He highlighted the challenges that Hyderabad faces in terms of its sewerage system. He explained that the city’s current sewerage system is outdated and cannot meet the needs of the growing population. The Chief Minister asked for Hyderabad’s Comprehensive Sewerage Master Plan (CSMP) to be included under AMRUT 2.0 or treated as a special project.

The Chief Minister pointed out that not only Hyderabad, but even nearby municipalities lack proper sewerage systems. He stressed the importance of achieving 100% wastewater treatment in Hyderabad and surrounding areas to maintain the city’s global living standards. This is especially important as the state government is planning to develop a new area, called the ‘Future City.’

Revanth Reddy informed the Union Minister that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared for the CSMP. This plan covers Hyderabad and 27 nearby municipalities, with a total length of 7,444 kilometres. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 17,212.69 crore, and he handed over the DPR to Khattar for further action.

The Chief Minister also talked about the Musi River, which runs for 55 kilometres through Hyderabad. He mentioned that 110 kilometres of sewage currently drain into the river. To stop this, a separate DPR has been made to construct trunk sewers, large drains, and new sewage treatment plants. The cost for this project is estimated at Rs 4,000 crore, and Revanth Reddy requested quick approval of the plan.

In terms of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2 expansion, the Chief Minister said that DPRs have been completed for several key routes. These routes include Nagole to Shamshabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (36.8 km), Raidurgam to Kokapet Neopolis (11.6 km), MG Bus Station to Chandrayangutta (7.5 km), Miyapur to Patancheru (13.4 km), and LB Nagar to Hayathnagar (7.1 km), totaling 76.4 kilometres.

The estimated cost of the Metro expansion is Rs 24,269 crore. Revanth Reddy proposed that this project be taken up as a joint venture between the state and central governments, with both contributing equally (50:50 ratio).
