Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is conducting a 90-day special drive to prevent sewage overflow in the city. On Monday, the managing director, Ashok Reddy, visited areas under operation and maintenance division number six to inspect the situation.

In this division, which covers Erragadda and Haimavati Nagar, sewerage lines have been in place since 1979. These lines serve around 500 houses and frequently experience sewage overflow issues. All the sewage in this area is connected to a single pipeline, causing increased pressure and leading to numerous complaints.

During the inspection, Ashok Reddy instructed officials to carry out temporary repairs on the old pipeline to stop further issues. As a permanent solution, he asked the officials to prepare proposals for constructing a new pipeline to better handle the sewage load.

The 90-day special drive by HMWSSB focuses on two key goals. First, they aim to find lasting solutions to the city’s long-standing sewage problems. Additionally, the board is working on digging more boreholes to prevent future water shortages, according to senior officials at HMWSSB.
