Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police are taking important steps to address growing traffic problems, especially in the IT corridor. On Monday, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty, along with Joint Commissioner of Traffic D Joel Davis, held a key meeting with leaders from the IT industry. The goal of this meeting was to come up with short-term and medium-term strategies to reduce traffic congestion in busy areas like Hitech City and the Financial District.
Several ideas were discussed during the meeting. One suggestion was to introduce staggered shifts, which means employees would start work at different times to avoid heavy traffic at peak hours. The police also asked IT companies to share information about when their employees arrive at work to help predict traffic patterns better. Another idea was to install cameras on tall buildings to monitor traffic in real-time.
Many big companies like Infosys, Microsoft, WIPRO, TCS, Cognizant, and Amazon were part of the meeting. The idea of having traffic marshals to manage traffic better was also brought up. The police suggested using funds from CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) for this initiative. Carpooling among employees was encouraged to reduce the number of vehicles on the road. The meeting also discussed improving roads and creating alternate routes to ease traffic.
Improving public transport was another major focus. They talked about better facilities for support staff, such as parking spaces and bus stops near key locations like Raidurgam metro station and Image Towers. The use of Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) was suggested to help pedestrians cross roads safely and reach IT parks more easily. There was also discussion about creating a shared shuttle service within IT parks to make transportation more efficient.
Some of these ideas would require help from other government departments. It was agreed that a follow-up meeting will be held in the next few weeks. Stakeholders from the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC), Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and other departments will also be involved.
Ramesh Kaza, the secretary of the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), suggested forming small groups to manage the implementation of each action point. Prashanth Nandella, president of the Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA), said that SCSC and HYSEA will work together to form a task force. This task force will hold regular meetings to track progress and ensure that the plans are effective.
Other notable industry and government leaders, such as Bharani Aroll, past president of HYSEA, and Amarnath Atmakuri, Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of the ITE&C Department, also actively participated in the discussions.
