Telangana Government to Support Displaced People in Musi Buffer Zone

The Telangana Government has announced plans to help people displaced by the demolition drive in the Musi buffer zone. These people will be provided with livelihoods through the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA). This was confirmed by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar during a press conference on Friday.

Minister Prabhakar explained that the government is not disturbing the Full Tank Level (FTL) or the buffer zone of the Musi River. Instead, efforts are being made to convince those living along the riverbanks to relocate. The government has a plan to give double-bedroom houses to the affected families. Prabhakar emphasized that the displaced people will also receive support through various MEPMA schemes, allowing them to live safely in their new homes.

In his speech, Prabhakar asked the public not to believe the claims of opposition parties, insisting that the government is taking all the necessary steps to ensure the well-being of the affected residents.

    Criticism of BRS Leaders

Minister Prabhakar also criticized K.T. Rama Rao and other leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). He accused them of making false promises, such as pledging to build 10,000 double-bedroom houses while delaying the Metro Rail project in the Old City for political reasons.

Prabhakar further alleged that KTR had instructed officials to remove illegal constructions along the Musi River. He also pointed out that BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao had supported the removal of such illegal structures in the city.

Accusations About Outer Ring Road and Water Supply

Prabhakar raised questions about the BRS government’s actions, accusing them of selling the Outer Ring Road for Rs.7,300 crore. He also questioned whether the BRS had made any progress in improving the city’s water supply, claiming that the current water sources, the Krishna and Godavari rivers, were part of the Congress’ earlier planning.

The minister mentioned that 31 sewage treatment plants (STPs) were built during the Congress reign. He challenged BRS leaders to explain their governance over the past ten years, pointing out that the city’s 141 logging points have not changed during that time.

    Call for Cooperation

Finally, Prabhakar said that the Telangana government is working hard to ensure fairness and uniformity across rural, semi-urban, and urban areas. He invited BRS leaders to meet with him if they are hesitant to approach the Chief Minister about development issues in Hyderabad.
