Hyderabad: Union Minister of Coal and Mines and Telangana State BJP President, G Kishan Reddy, expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for inviting him to the Praja Palana Dinotsavam event on September 17. However, he stated that he would not be able to attend the event.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Kishan Reddy mentioned the long struggle of the people of the Hyderabad State to free themselves from the oppressive rule of the Nizam and his private army, the Razakars. He highlighted the sacrifices made during this fight, with many people losing their lives and thousands enduring extreme violence.
Kishan Reddy emphasized that the liberation of Telangana is a deeply emotional story of bravery and sacrifice. According to him, September 17 should be commemorated in a way that honors the martyrs who fought for freedom. He added that such a commemoration should inspire current generations with a sense of patriotism and make them aware of the historical significance of the liberation struggle.
However, Kishan Reddy criticized the Chief Minister’s approach to the event. He argued that the name Praja Palana Dinotsavam seemed to divert attention from the true essence of the struggle. He felt that describing the day as merely a transition from monarchy to democracy undermined the heroic fight for liberation and promoted a political agenda of appeasement.
In his letter, the Union Minister pointed out that, in contrast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has been giving proper recognition to September 17 over the past few years. The day is observed in a way that honors the courage and sacrifice of those who made the liberation of Hyderabad possible.
Given these concerns, Kishan Reddy said he could not participate in what he described as an “insincere ritual” that, in his view, attempts to distort the truth. He urged the Chief Minister to recognize the true significance of September 17 and to take the first step toward fully understanding and accepting the importance of the day as a milestone in the liberation of Telangana.
