The State Government of Telangana has developed a plan to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a key tool in improving e-governance, creating a skilled AI workforce, generating employment, and enhancing education.

On Thursday, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurated the Global AI Summit in Hyderabad. During the event, he released a strategic document titled “AI-powered Telangana.” This document outlines the state’s vision to integrate AI technologies into government operations to improve the efficiency of services. The government aims to use AI to support decision-making, improve governance, and tackle social challenges, all while promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Chief Minister highlighted that Telangana plans to enhance government service delivery for over 1 crore citizens and implement AI solutions in welfare schemes. The state government is targeting a 20 per cent increase in the productivity of government employees over the next three years, setting a new standard for AI-driven governance in India.

One of the key initiatives, “AI for Employment,” will focus on helping professionals aged 18-45 acquire industry-relevant skills. The government plans to upskill five lakh young professionals in AI by 2027, meeting the growing demand for skilled workers in AI and deep-tech fields. A six-step process will be used to achieve this goal.

Another initiative, “AI in Schools,” is designed for students aged 15-18. It aims to build foundational AI knowledge, prepare students for future careers in AI, and teach them about safe AI use. This AI curriculum will begin in schools in the academic year 2025-26. The plan includes providing AI Learning Kits, updating the curriculum, and training teachers. By 2027, the AI curriculum will be implemented in all senior secondary schools in the state, benefiting around 5,000 educational institutions, 20,000 educators, and 5 lakh students. The government’s goal is to ensure that 100 per cent of senior secondary schools in Telangana have an AI curriculum by 2027.
