Hyderabad: Former Minister and Congress MLC Patnam Mahender Reddy has clarified that his farmhouse at Himayat Sagar is built on patta lands, which are privately owned lands. He assured that he would demolish the farmhouse if the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HYDRA) declares it illegal.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Mahender Reddy explained that the land, covering 14.14 acres, is his ancestral property. He mentioned that the farmhouse was developed 20 years ago, and the structure occupies only a small portion of the land. The remaining area is used for cultivating paddy, vegetables, and fruits.
Mahender Reddy presented land documents during the press conference. He stated that the patta land was purchased in 1999 in his son’s name. He also mentioned that permissions to construct the farmhouse were obtained in 2005 under the Government Order MS 111 norms. He added that all land details have been uploaded to the latest Dharani portal, which is a digital registry of land records. He pointed out that many influential people, including MPs and Ministers, own properties within GO MS 111 limits.
He also noted that compared to the properties owned by others, his property is relatively small. He explained that since his farmhouse is located on a hillock, it is visible from the ring road, which attracts attention.
Mahender Reddy further clarified that when he was an MLA, he had the entire area surveyed by officials. The farmhouse was constructed only after they confirmed that it was not within Full Tank Level (FTL) or buffer zone limits. He added that he had not received any notice from HYDRA regarding the legality of the farmhouse.
Finally, Mahender Reddy assured that if any notice is served, he would demolish the farmhouse. He also mentioned that many other building owners had approached the court and secured stay orders to protect their properties.
