Hyderabad: On Wednesday, the Food Safety officers of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) conducted inspections in hostel canteens across the city. These inspections took place in both government and private residential schools, colleges, and hostels within the GHMC limits.
The inspections were ordered by GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata, who instructed the officers to conduct these checks over a period of 15 days. This initiative aims to ensure that food safety standards are being followed in educational institutions and hostels.
On the first day of the special inspection drive, officers visited 12 residential schools and hostels. These included four in the Charminar zone, three in Secunderabad, two in Serilingampally, and one each in L B Nagar, Kukatpally, and Khairtabad.
During the inspections, the food safety officers checked various aspects of the canteens. They inspected the kitchens, cooking utensils, water tanks, storage areas, prepared food items, raw materials, and overall sanitation management. The officers warned that show cause notices would be issued to any institutions that did not comply with food safety rules.
Earlier in the day, Commissioner Amrapali Kata held a teleconference with additional and zonal commissioners. During the meeting, she emphasized the importance of inspecting the quality of food in schools, colleges, and hostels. She also directed the officers to launch a special drive for mosquito prevention and control programs.
As part of these mosquito prevention measures, the Commissioner ordered the anti-larvae operation to be carried out in all schools, colleges, and hostels in the city. She also stressed the need to educate students about how to prevent mosquito breeding and maintain proper sanitation.
The teleconference was attended by additional commissioners, zonal commissioners, and other officers from the respective departments.
