In Hyderabad, the Telangana School Education Department is trying out new methods to manage education. Recently, they approved hiring 54 Academic Instructors in four areas of the Vikarabad District. These instructors will earn Rs 15,600 monthly. However, their positions are temporary, lasting either three months or until new teachers are hired and start their jobs.

Vikarabad District Collector Prateek Jain issued instructions following the State School Education Department’s guidelines to set up a committee for hiring these instructors. The committee will follow specific qualifications for temporary language teacher positions. Priority will be given to candidates with a “Graduation + BEd or Graduation with Pandit trainees for Telugu, Hindi, and Urdu.” Those with only a graduation degree will be considered next.

The department also recommends that these instructors should ideally be from the same Gram Panchayat or Urban Local Body (ULB). If no suitable candidates are found locally, the search will expand to nearby areas or within the same mandal.

The committee responsible for hiring is led by the Mandal Praja Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) of the respective mandal. The Mandal Education Officer (MEO) and Chairman of the Amma Aadarsha Patashala Committee (AAMC) are also part of this committee. They must complete the hiring process by August 15, 2024, and report back with the results.

An MPDO from the district expressed concerns to The Hans India, stating, “There are no guidelines issued that the committee members should be qualified in Telugu, Hindi, and Urdu for conducting the selection process.” This raises questions about how the department plans to ensure qualified language teachers are selected by a committee that might not be proficient in these languages. This process, even if temporary, has reportedly been used for years, possibly affecting the quality of education. This remains a significant question for the future of educational standards in the region.
