    Hyderabad:

To improve road safety, the Hyderabad traffic police carried out a special operation against ‘wrong side driving’ on Wednesday. This operation aimed to prevent road accidents. During the drive, the police booked 688 cases.

The operation took place at various locations under the Hyderabad Commissionerate. The police issued 659 cases against two-wheelers, 221 cases against three-wheelers, and eight cases against four-wheelers.

FIRs (First Information Reports) were filed at the respective law and order police stations. Violating this rule can lead to a penalty of Rs 1,100 or imprisonment of up to six months, or a fine of Rs 1,000, or both, according to the MV Act.

In 2023, eight people were killed and 150 were injured due to wrong side driving. So far this year, one person has died and over 128 have been injured for the same reason.

Many violators claimed they were in emergencies, such as medical ones. The police urge citizens not to use emergencies as an excuse for wrong-side driving, as it endangers their lives and those of others.

Citizens are encouraged to report traffic violations to the Hyderabad traffic police through their Facebook account, X, or the traffic helpline at 9010203626.

The police plan to continue such special drives against other traffic violations to ensure the safety of all road users. They will take strict legal action against motorists who risk the lives of others.
