Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police intensified their efforts against drunk driving with a major enforcement drive on Friday night. This operation took place within the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits and focused on curbing drunk driving, especially in the IT corridor.
During this drive, the police apprehended over 509 people for driving under the influence of alcohol. The campaign was particularly focused on weekends due to the spike in alcohol-related accidents in the area.
As part of their strategy, the police organized special large-scale drives on weekends, deploying teams to monitor and check for drunk drivers.
In this recent operation, the police caught 414 two-wheelers, 22 three-wheelers, 67 four-wheelers, and six heavy vehicles. Among the offenders, 61 had blood alcohol concentrations ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All those caught will be presented before the court.
Additionally, the police discovered instances of both underage drinking and drunk driving. While traffic police booked these offenders, the Law & Order (L&O) police investigated the sources where the underage individuals obtained alcohol.
The police issued a stern warning to the public. They stated that anyone found guilty of drunk driving, especially if it leads to fatal accidents, will face severe consequences. Such offenders will be arrested and charged under Section 304 of Part 2 of the IPC and Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. These charges carry a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail and a fine.
