Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police intensified their efforts against drunk driving with a major enforcement drive on Friday night. This operation took place within the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits and focused on curbing drunk driving, especially in the IT corridor.

During this drive, the police apprehended over 509 people for driving under the influence of alcohol. The campaign was particularly focused on weekends due to the spike in alcohol-related accidents in the area.

Additionally, the police discovered instances of both underage drinking and drunk driving. While traffic police booked these offenders, the Law & Order (L&O) police investigated the sources where the underage individuals obtained alcohol.

The police issued a stern warning to the public. They stated that anyone found guilty of drunk driving, especially if it leads to fatal accidents, will face severe consequences. Such offenders will be arrested and charged under Section 304 of Part 2 of the IPC and Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. These charges carry a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail and a fine.
