Gadwal:
The District Welfare Officer for Women, Children, Disabled, and Elderly in Jogulamba Gadwal, Sudha Rani, announced that various programs will be held as part of World Breastfeeding Week 2024. These programs aim to promote breastfeeding to help create a healthy society.
Following the District Collector’s orders, awareness programs will be organized at district, mandal, and village levels. Both government and private maternity hospitals will be asked to teach new mothers about the importance of breastfeeding. The goal is to address gaps in support for breastfeeding, emphasizing that breast milk is vital for a child’s health. It helps in both mental and physical development by providing essential nutrients and immunity.
Special programs will take place from August 1 to 7 at Anganwadi centers during World Breastfeeding Week. Sudha Rani outlined the planned activities:
– August 1: Conduct VHSND programs at village/ward levels to raise awareness about exclusive breastfeeding for up to 6 months.
– August 2: Continue awareness programs on exclusive breastfeeding for up to 6 months.
– August 3: Organize ‘Annaprasana’ programs at village/ward levels to introduce complementary foods.
– August 5: Make home visits for children aged 0-24 months to emphasize the importance of breastfeeding and nutrition.
– August 6: Visit homes with children under 6 months to demonstrate breastfeeding techniques and handwashing.
– August 7: Hold meetings with self-help groups in rural and urban areas to raise awareness.
Throughout the week, awareness activities, health camps, and promotional campaigns using posters and placards will be conducted at village, ward, mandal, and district levels. The public is encouraged to participate in these programs to learn about the importance of breastfeeding and contribute to building a healthy society.
