Hyderabad: There were intense discussions about power projects in the Assembly on Monday. Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and former minister G Jagadish Reddy challenged each other on criminal cases and offered to resign if the allegations were proven.
The issue began when Jagadish Reddy criticized the Chief Minister for implying he was speaking as if he were already in Cherlapally jail. Jagadish Reddy responded by saying, “Revanth Reddy was recalling his days in jail, whereas I have been to jail during the Telangana agitation; I am recalling Chanchalguda Jail.”
In response, the Chief Minister said that Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had all the data on Jagadish Reddy’s misdeeds.
Venkat Reddy accused Jagadish Reddy of having a criminal record in Nalgonda, mentioning three murder cases, a theft case, a supari (contract) killing case, and being subjected to ‘tadipar’ (a form of exile).
This caused a major uproar in the House, with BRS members rushing to the well. Jagadish Reddy demanded that Venkat Reddy’s comments be removed from the record and said that if the minister could prove his criminal record, he would resign and leave politics. He added that both the minister and the Chief Minister should apologize by rubbing their noses on the floor.
Venkat Reddy responded by saying that a murder case had been pending against Jagadish Reddy for the last 16 years and insisted that Jagadish Reddy should be ready to quit politics. Jagadish Reddy claimed there was not a single case against him in court.
Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu then intervened, urging the Speaker to remove the unparliamentary language used by the BRS leader from the records. The Speaker announced that the comments made by Jagadish Reddy would be expunged.
