Justice Madan Bhim Rao Lokur has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Electricity Inquiry Commission in Telangana. This decision was made by the Supreme Court following a petition by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). KCR had concerns about the formation and impartiality of the previous chairman, Justice Narasimha Reddy.
Justice Lokur has had a distinguished legal career. He served as the Chief Justice of the High Court and later as a Judge of the Supreme Court in the Commonwealth of Nations. Now, he will lead the Electricity Inquiry Commission. This commission was set up by the Revanth Reddy government to investigate decisions made by the previous government regarding electricity purchases.
The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, directed the change of the commission’s chairman but did not address KCR’s request to cancel the commission’s establishment. Following this decision, Justice Narasimha Reddy resigned from his position as chairman.
Under Justice Lokur’s leadership, the new commission aims to thoroughly investigate the controversial decisions related to electricity procurement. The goal is to ensure transparency and accountability in the process.
