Hyderabad: The Congress government plans to replace Dharani, a project started by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, with a new land law to better address people’s concerns.

The Revenue department has been instructed to have thorough discussions with the public and gather their suggestions for the new law. There will also be a debate on Dharani in the current budget session of the Assembly to reach an agreement on the new proposal.

This decision was made by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during a review meeting on the Dharani portal held on Friday. Revanth Reddy pointed out that land records, which used to be kept at the village level, were moved to the state headquarters by the previous government, even bypassing district and mandal levels.

Previously, villagers could appeal to local authorities to resolve land issues. However, with the introduction of Dharani, these powers were transferred to District Collectors, making their decisions final and leaving many land issues unresolved.

Revanth emphasized the need for a detailed study to find a permanent solution to the problems caused by the Dharani portal. Officials have been asked to consult extensively with the public to gather their opinions on land-related disputes. An all-party meeting will be held soon to gather more opinions before finalizing the new law.

Additionally, the CM instructed officials to select a mandal where various land issues such as Bhoodan, Poramboku, Bancharayi, Inam, and Kandishika are pending. They are to prepare a detailed report on each issue to gain clarity and find effective solutions.
