In a strong response to the recent floods in Peddavagu, Telangana’s Minister for Revenue, Housing, and Information, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, has promised to help all displaced families. On Monday, he visited the Peddavagu project area in Gummadapalli village to see the damage and discuss immediate support measures.
The Minister announced that new homes, called Indiramma houses, will be built for families who lost theirs to the floods. He also said that farmers with land affected by sand dunes will receive ₹10,000 per acre for cleaning efforts. Additionally, farmers whose cotton and paddy crops were destroyed will get free seeds and ₹3,000 for any sheep lost.
During his visit to various flood-hit villages like Koyarangapuram and Gummadavalli, Minister Reddy personally gave financial aid to 51 displaced families through the PSR Trust. He also offered condolences and support to the family of a person who died in an electrical accident during the floods.
Speaking to the media in Koyarangapuram village, Reddy stressed the government’s commitment to help those in need. He pointed out that the Peddavagu project failed after releasing 70,000 cusecs of floodwaters. He mentioned that better management of the project gates could have prevented the disaster and stated that negligent officials have been issued notices.
To start immediate repairs, Reddy confirmed that ₹8 crore had been approved after discussing with the Chief Minister. He also asked the Collector to survey land acquisitions due to claims of encroachments on the Peddavagu project’s lands.
Minister Reddy thanked the Andhra Pradesh government for their help in rescuing 41 stranded farm laborers using a helicopter during the floods.
The Minister was accompanied by officials like Collector Jitesh V. Patil, SP Rohit Raj, and local MLA Jare Adinarayana. They all focused on addressing the aftermath of the floods and ensuring the welfare of affected communities.
