Hyderabad: On Saturday, continuous rains disrupted normal life in the city. Water-logging at major junctions slowed down traffic significantly. Many residents chose to stay indoors as the civic authorities advised against unnecessary travel.
Most areas in the city experienced moderate rainfall. However, places like Uppal, Kapra, Secunderabad Cantonment, Alwal, Malkajgiri, Musheerabad, Jubilee Hills, Santosh Nagar, Chandrayangutta, Begumpet, and Chandanagar saw light rain by 7 pm, according to the Telangana Development Planning Society.
In the morning, office goers faced difficulties reaching their destinations. Many parents decided not to send their children to school due to the bad weather. As a result, some private schools had almost half their usual attendance. Parents who did send their children anxiously awaited their return and hoped for a holiday announcement if the weather continued.
GHMC officials stayed alert with monsoon emergency teams working to clear water-logged roads. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the weather might not improve for the next two or three days.
The city’s major lake, Hussain Sagar, saw significant water inflows of 1517 cusecs and outflows of 998 cusecs by 6 pm. The water level was at 513.23 meters, close to the Full Tank Level (FTL) of 513.41 meters.
