The Telangana government is asking for half of the water from the Godavari river to be given to the state. The government officials had a meeting with NWDA about sharing river water and irrigation issues. They are also against using the Nagarjuna Sagar dam as a balanced reservoir.

State officials explained the difficulties they face in using river water for various reasons. They questioned NWDA for starting a river linking project without resolving state-specific water disputes. The officials want the Sagar dam to not be used as a balanced reservoir until the Bachawat award settles the matter.
