    The State government in Hyderabad is getting ready for the Panchayat Raj elections. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy instructed officials to create a plan to increase BC reservations in local body elections.

    During a review at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister discussed the need to boost BC reservations for the upcoming Panchayat elections. Officials presented details about previous elections and preparations for the upcoming ones.

    Officials mentioned that caste enumeration had been done in Karnataka in 2015, in Bihar in 2023, but not yet in Andhra Pradesh. They explained that adding more columns to the existing caste enumeration format would take about five and a half months.

    The Chief Minister urged officials to quickly prepare a plan for the elections to ensure continued funds from the Central government to local bodies. There was an extensive discussion on increasing reservations during the meeting.

    Former minister K Jana Reddy outlined the procedures followed in Panchayat elections in Telangana and discussed legal cases and judgments related to BC reservations in local body elections across various states.

    Revanth Reddy emphasized the need for a timeline for implementing reservations in Panchayat elections. He suggested consulting experts from the Panchayat Raj department and discussing legal matters with the advocate general. Officials were also asked to study how other states were addressing reservation issues.

    The Chief Minister mentioned that he would hold another meeting before the Assembly sessions to make a final decision after receiving a report on these issues.
