Maganti Gopinath, the MLA for Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad, attributes his success in politics to the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, NT Rama Rao. He believes that NTR provided him with many opportunities at a young age.
Gopinath was born on June 2, 1963 in Hyderabad to Krishnamurthy and Mahanand Kumari. He completed his BA degree from Osmania University. He is married to Sunitha and has two daughters and a son. Gopinath began his political career with the Telugu Desam Party in 1983, eventually becoming the head of ‘Telugu Yuvatha’ from 1985 to 1992. He held various positions, such as director of Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in 1988 and president of Hyderabad District Consumers Forum from 1988 to 1993.
As a three-time MLA for Jubilee Hills, under the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, Gopinath first won in 2014 by defeating Naveen Yadav of AIMIM. Later, he joined TRS after the formation of Telangana. In the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections, he secured victories over his Congress rivals with significant majorities.
In January 2022, Gopinath was appointed as the city president of the GHMC wing of the BRS party, where he became a key leader. He focused on development projects during his tenure, ensuring that welfare schemes were implemented effectively. This included providing pensions directly into bank accounts, improving medical facilities through Basti Dawakhanas, and relocating residents of Karmikanagar slum to double bedroom houses in Patancheru. He also addressed drinking water issues in various parts of his constituency.
