In a significant decision, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has stopped the demolition of YSRCP offices in the state. The court ruled that no demolition orders should be confirmed without hearing the concerns of the party.

The court’s decision came after a batch of writ petitions filed by YSRCP challenging the demolition notices issued to party offices in 10 districts. Justice B. Krishna Mohan stated that demolitions can only be carried out if the building structure in question poses a threat to public safety. The High Court directed the state to refrain from taking any coercive actions against the YSRCP without allowing them time to respond and explain.

The YSRCP argued that its offices were being targeted following a change in government in the state. The notices were issued on June 24, and petitions were filed on June 26. The YSRCP’s counsel contended that the notices were not issued by a competent authority and that demolition orders should only be passed as a last resort, not at the whim of the ruling party.

When the Bench suggested that government officials follow established legal procedures, the petitioners opposed by pointing out a previous incident where the state demolished a construction despite court orders. The government prosecutor for municipal administration argued that issuing a demolition notice itself proves that proper procedures were being followed.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the Bench reserved its orders in the matter last Friday.
