Members of the Secunderabad Cantonment Employees’ Union and Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the impact of the SCB-GHMC merger. The union is concerned about how the merger could affect the employment terms of SCB personnel. They want to ensure that their rights are protected and their service continuity is maintained despite administrative changes.

During the meeting, the union requested the Defence Minister to exempt the 5% ceiling on vacancies for compassionate appointments. They highlighted that many dependents of deceased SCB employees are exposed to unhealthy and dangerous environments, leading to a high death rate and short average life spans. The union also raised other issues, such as the merger of civil population areas of SCB into GHMC, the fate of employees and pensioners, pending compassionate appointment orders since 2011, and the treatment of B3 lands and holders of occupancy rights.
