The Telangana High Court’s division bench, led by CJ Alok Aradhe and Justice Jukanti Anil Kumar, has asked the State government and the Animal Welfare Board of India to provide a status report on actions taken to prevent incidents where children are attacked by stray dogs. This decision came after a tragic incident in Patancheru, Sangareddy district, on June 29, where a six-year-old boy named Vishal was fatally attacked by a group of stray dogs while he was outside. The court expressed concern over the lack of effective measures by the government to address such incidents.
The CJ emphasized the need for compassion towards the victims and stressed that mere compensation is not enough. The State must establish policies to prevent similar incidents in the future. Prior to the Patancheru incident, there was another attack on children by stray dogs in Yerukalabasti, Bagh Amberpet, which resulted in the death of a schoolboy. This incident was also brought to the court’s attention. The hearing on this matter has been adjourned until July 10 for the submission of a status report.
In a separate case, notices were issued by the HC single bench of Justice Pulla Karthik to the State Secretary regarding a writ filed by 21 law officers who were removed from their positions in lower courts by a government order. The judge directed the State to respond to the writ filed by Nagaram Anjaiah and other law officers working in various subordinate courts. The petitioners are seeking to continue their services until their term expires. The hearing on this case has been adjourned for two weeks.
