The residential welfare associations of Secunderabad Cantonment are urging the State government to use 98.83 acres of empty land to develop civilian areas. The Ministry of Defence has announced the excision of civilian areas from the limits of Secunderabad Cantonment, but the exact amount of land to be transferred is still being determined.

According to officials, there are approximately 2,670 acres of civilian land under SCB limits, including residential colonies, bazaars, Central government land, leased sites, and vacant land parcels. Locals are optimistic about the merger with GHMC and are eager for the final report to be submitted to the State government.

Residents see the empty B4 category land as an opportunity for infrastructural development once the merger takes place. They hope to see improvements in educational institutions and health centers in the area. The General Land Register classifies Secunderabad Cantonment into different categories, which will be transferred to GHMC jurisdiction after the merger.

Overall, residents are looking forward to the development that can happen in the area once neglected open plots are utilized effectively.
