    International team of experts commences examination of Polavaram project

    An international team of experts has begun looking into ways to restart the stalled Polavaram project in Rajamahendravaram. They are inspecting the coffer dams and diaphragm wall during their 4-day visit, and will provide a report on the progress of the works.

    The Andhra Pradesh Government has asked the team to identify the reasons for the project’s halt, identify obstacles, and suggest ways to resume work. The team of water resources experts, consisting of four members from the United States and Canada, met with officials from central and state water resources departments in Delhi before arriving in Rajamahendravaram.

    Upon reaching Rajamahendravaram, the experts inspected the project site and met with officials at the Polavaram project. They will be in town for four days to review the entire project and discuss issues with key stakeholders such as the Polavaram Project Authority, Central Water Commission, Megha Engineering and Industries Ltd, Wapcos, and CSMRS.

    The Central Water Commission decided to seek international expertise to address uncertainties and challenges related to the Polavaram project. The team includes experts in dam safety, structural engineering, civil engineering, and other relevant fields. The International Design Agency Afri will also be involved in examining project designs.
