The Justice Chandra Ghose Commission is investigating irregularities in the construction of three barrages – Medigadda, Sundilla, and Annaram – under the Kaleshwaram project. They have asked irrigation officials and contract agencies to provide details of instructions given by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and other leaders.
Once the required information is provided, the commission will summon those responsible for questioning. Former Chief Minister KCR and ex-irrigation minister T Harish Rao may also be questioned. The commission is looking into whether there were any deviations from the original designs and inflated estimations during construction.
Irrigation officials involved in the construction have been asked to submit their responses in affidavits. The commission has received reports from Vigilance and CAG which raise concerns about the project’s viability and maintenance standards.
Contract agencies are also required to submit statements on the safety and quality of the barrages. These affidavits will help assess the construction process, financial aspects, and operational management of the project from start to finish.
