In Hyderabad, K Venkata Subash, a seventh grader diagnosed with cancer, got to be a police inspector for a day at the Nampally police station. He was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) last year and is currently receiving treatment at MNJ Cancer Hospital in Red Hills.
Make-A-Wish Foundation of India, Hyderabad Chapter volunteers learned about Subash’s dream of becoming a police officer during an interaction. They passed this information along to their superiors, who reached out to the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police for assistance. The Commissioner’s office then contacted Inspector B Abhilash at Nampally police station to make the boy’s wish come true.
With the help of police officials, the NGO brought Subash to the Nampally police station dressed in a police uniform. Upon arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Inspector Abhilash, Sub Inspector P Sai Kumar, and other staff members. Subash was given a tour of the police station and learned about the basic policing efforts of the Hyderabad police.
Subash was then taken to the inspector’s chamber where he sat in the chair to experience what it feels like to be a police officer. The day was filled with joy for Subash as he got to live out his dream even if it was just for a day.
