Union Minister Gangapuram Kishan Reddy, who recently joined the Modi Cabinet, has a long history in politics. He was elected as an MP from the Secunderabad constituency in 2019 after serving as a three-time MLA and BJP floor leader in the Telangana and AP Assemblies.

Born in Ranga Reddy district in 1960 to Gangapuram Swami Reddy and Andalamma, Reddy began his political career as a youth activist in the Janata Party before joining the BJP in 1980. He gradually rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the president of BJYM in 2002.

Reddy’s first foray into electoral politics came in 2004 when he contested from the Himayatnagar Assembly constituency. Despite being a first-time MLA, he quickly gained a reputation for his diligence and insight in debates, earning respect from colleagues and constituents alike.

Throughout his career, Reddy has held various leadership positions within the BJP, including serving as State president in united AP and later in Telangana. He has also held ministerial roles at both the state and central levels, including Minister of State for Home Affairs and Union Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Development of North Eastern Region.
