In Hyderabad, MLAs from the BRS party are feeling anxious after the party failed to win any Lok Sabha seats. It is rumored that many MLAs in the GHMC area may leave the party due to its poor performance, with all four candidates losing their deposits.
The BRS leaders, including legislators, had previously faced pressure from the Congress party’s ‘Operation Akarsh’ but chose to wait and see how things played out until the Lok Sabha elections. However, the dismal results in the GHMC area, where all four candidates lost their deposits, have left them concerned about what lies ahead.
The party’s candidates in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Malkajgiri, and Chevella all performed poorly in the elections, with none of them able to save their deposits. While BRS MLAs had received a significant number of votes in the Assembly election, their support drastically decreased in the Lok Sabha polls.
Congress leader Mynampally Hanumanth Rao recently claimed that around ten BRS MLAs were considering joining his party. Speculation is rife that those who had previously been affiliated with parties like the TDP or Congress might be looking to switch sides, especially in the GHMC area. Out of the 39 constituencies where BRS had won in the Assembly elections, 16 MLAs are in GHMC and nine are in and around Hyderabad.
The BRS’s strength has now decreased to 38 following the defeat of party candidate L Nivedita in a recent by-poll. Additionally, three MLAs and the city mayor have shifted their loyalty to the Congress party. Some MLAs have been seen meeting with CM Revanth Reddy at his residence, although they claim it is for the development of their constituencies. Rumors abound that MLA T Prakash Goud from Rajendranagar may also be considering joining the Congress party.
