Farmers in Gadwal are shifting towards cotton cultivation this year due to government encouragement and their own past experiences. The government is promoting cotton as farmers faced losses with traditional crops like soy and turmeric. This shift is expected to dominate the district this year.

This year, farmers in the district are showing a high interest in growing cotton. Despite officials predicting a decrease in mixed crops and an increase in cotton cultivation, prices for cotton have exceeded expectations. Farmers are hopeful about the crop, calling it “white gold.” Around 20,000 acres are expected to be used for cotton cultivation this season.

Officials report that over 20,000 acres will be dedicated to cotton cultivation this Kharif season. Farmers have already bought seeds and are waiting for the first rains. The shift to cotton is due to the district’s favorable climate for the crop and high yields in Nalla regadi lands. Farmers believe planting during the first rains will make the crop more resistant to pests and increase yields.

Farmers see cotton cultivation as a way to settle debts and are optimistic about high yields and pest resistance. However, they are concerned about rising investment costs affecting profits. The district’s total cultivated land area is 571,000 acres, with 395,200 acres expected to be used for cotton cultivation this year.
