The Telangana State Drug Control Administration (DCA) recently conducted raids at various locations to crack down on illegal drug operations, overpricing, and misleading advertisements.

During one raid at a medical shop in Shameerpet, the DCA confiscated overpriced ‘Testra-200 Capsules’ being sold for Rs 29.80 per capsule, well above the ceiling price set by the Central government. Another raid led to the seizure of medicines like ‘P-Mycetin Ointment’ and ‘Mahasudarshan Kadha’ due to misleading claims about their effectiveness.

Stocks of ‘P-Mycetin Ointment’ were seized in Kapra, while ‘Mahasudarshan Kadha’ was confiscated in Khammam. Additionally, a quack named K Swarupa in Gachibowli was caught practicing medicine without proper qualifications at her clinic ‘Swarupa First Aid Centre.’

The DCA found 17 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics and analgesics, being illegally stocked at the clinic during the raids. The agency warned wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unqualified individuals that they could also face punishment under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

The DCA issues drug licenses in Telangana and strictly enforces regulations against stocking and selling drugs without proper authorization. Surprise checks are being carried out to identify and penalize those illegally selling drugs without a license.
