The new Dr BR Ambedkar State Secretariat in Hyderabad is getting a makeover in response to complaints from employees. Issues such as improper ventilation, rainwater entering the building during monsoon season, lack of comfortable cubicles in section offices, and water stagnation in front of the Secretariat have been causing problems for employees and visitors.
One major problem is the stagnation of rainwater in the corridors, including on the six floors where the Chief Minister’s Office and Chief Secretary’s offices are located. Videos of water stagnation went viral on social media, prompting officials to ask the building maintenance wing to find a solution to prevent this issue.
During summer, ventilation problems arise due to closed windows without exhaust fans. Air conditioner machines in offices are not providing effective airflow due to large room sizes. Special rooms for OSDs and assistant and deputy secretaries lack proper ventilation. Higher authorities have been made aware of these issues and are taking steps to address them by making changes to office structures.
Cubicles for section and assistant section officers are uncomfortable, with some sections not being conducive to work. Employees are unhappy with the lack of privacy and comfortable working conditions. Additionally, water stagnation near the Secretariat building has been a recent concern, with officials investigating the cause and planning a makeover of the corridors and office premises.
