Amazon has been empowering women in India through educational sessions on menstrual hygiene, reaching over 20,000 women. These sessions also focus on handwashing, sanitation, and healthy eating habits to create a healthier future for communities.
In Hyderabad, Amazon supports a sanitary napkin manufacturing unit that offers part-time employment with flexible hours, allowing women to work while taking care of their families. Through partnerships with NGOs, women entrepreneurs receive training and support to run these units successfully.
The manufacturing unit directly employs around 60 women and indirectly supports another 200 women, creating a sustainable source of income for them. This initiative empowers women to take control of their financial futures and become active participants in the local economy.
Amazon’s Gram Mitr and Pragati Mitr programs aim to break the stigma around menstruation by providing educational sessions in schools, childcare centers, and self-help groups. These sessions cover healthy practices, dispelling myths, and building supportive environments for women and girls.
Four state-of-the-art sanitary napkin manufacturing units have been established by Amazon in strategic locations across India. These units produce biodegradable pads and promote environmental consciousness through the use of eco-friendly materials.
Amazon collaborates with non-profit organizations like Vyomini and She and We to train women, develop business acumen, and ensure the success of these projects. The goal is to empower women, improve menstrual hygiene, and promote sustainability through innovative community engagement programs.
