Surgeons at NIMS Hyderabad recently performed a rare surgery to save the life of a tribal youth named Sodi Nanda. The 17-year-old had an arrow lodged in his chest after an accident, causing him extreme pain for nearly a day. The surgeons worked for four hours to remove the arrow, ultimately saving his life.
The incident occurred when Sodi Nanda was hit by a stray arrow while in a nearby forest. His family quickly took him to a local hospital in Bhadrachalam, and he was later transferred to Warangal MGM for further treatment. Recognizing the severity of his condition, doctors at MGM recommended moving him to NIMS Hyderabad. By Friday evening, Sodi Nanda was at NIMS hospital in Panjagutta, where doctors found that the arrow had gone through his lung and into the right atrium of his heart.
The surgeons at NIMS decided to proceed with the surgery, carefully extracting the arrow with minimal blood loss. They emphasized that if Sodi Nanda had tried to remove the arrow himself, the situation could have been much worse. Fortunately, the operation was successful, and the young man is expected to recover fully.
Dr. Birappa, the Director of NIMS, praised the team of doctors from the cardiothoracic department for their exceptional work in handling this critical case. The treatment was provided free of charge, demonstrating the compassionate approach of the medical staff at NIMS. Director Birappa also brought this case to the attention of the state government, highlighting the importance of the successful surgery in saving a young life.
