A Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Andhra Pradesh found that the police and local leaders worked together in the violence that happened on election day and afterward. The SIT, made up of 13 members, submitted a report to the Director General of Police revealing 33 violent incidents. The team, led by Inspector General Vineet Brijlal, included police officers and a legal advisor.

The SIT divided into four sub-teams, each led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP). Two teams went to Palnadu district, one to Anantapuram, and one to Tirupati. The investigation took two days, during which officials visited the affected areas, talked to local police and residents, and looked at filed reports about the violence. They worked late into Sunday night before submitting their preliminary report.

The DGP then instructed the team to include more sections of the law in their investigation to cover incidents in Palnadu, Tadipatri, Macharla, Narasaraopet, Tirupati, and Chandragiri. The SIT’s 150-page report detailed 33 incidents in Palnadu, Tirupati, and Anantapur districts. They found serious offenses involving large groups of people throwing stones that could have caused severe harm.

The SIT discovered that the police and local leaders did not handle the violent incidents properly. They found many mistakes in the investigations and instructed officers to take immediate action. Special teams were created at the district level to find and arrest those responsible. The SIT also received complaints from affected individuals during field visits and is verifying the information for further action.
