The Chandra Ghose Commission is investigating why the Pranahita-Chevella lift irrigation scheme was replaced with the Kaleshwaram project during the previous government in Telangana. They will compare the benefits of both projects and analyze why nearly Rs 1 lakh crore was spent on Kaleshwaram.

A Technical Expert Committee will be formed to look into the alleged irregularities in the construction of the Kaleshwaram project. The agreements made by previous governments with Maharashtra for the Pranahita project and the pact for Kaleshwaram will be key points of study.

The Commission will examine why the KCR government chose Kaleshwaram over Pranahita, looking at factors like expenditure, water resources, land acquisition, submergence, and economic viability. The agreements made by previous governments in Telangana and united Andhra Pradesh will be reviewed by the technical committee.

The Commission will also investigate whether any agreements were violated during the construction of Kaleshwaram and why costs escalated. A comprehensive study of all barrages, pump houses, and expenditures by the KCR government will be conducted as part of the investigation.
